Funeral services for Mr. William Michael "Mike"  "Tar Baby" Thurston, age 59 of Marion, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday March 08, 2023 at Liberty Baptist Church in Linville, LA with E.T Browing officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Linville, LA under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

For years Tar Baby worked as a rough neck and driller in the oil industry, Walmart Tire Center in Monroe, LA and retired from the Union Parish Policy Jury after 25 years.  He also worked as a road grader operator and retired as a supervisor. Tar Baby loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was an excellent cook, prankster and jokester and he loved his family dearly.

Tar Baby was preceded in death by his parents: George Emmette and Jerry Thurston, sister: Frances Lee "Sissy" Thurston, nephew: Eli Thomas, Virgil Brantley III, and Jesse Brantley.

He is survived by his daughter: Miranda Thurston, two grandsons: Hunter Tedeton and Hayden Thurston, three sisters: Jeannie Browing (E.T), Cindy Brantley (Virgil), and Amy Thomas (Billy), his brother: Steve Thurston (Carol), Aunt: Rosemary Thurston, special cousins: Jay Thurston (Sandi), Bill Thurston (Kaye), and Hank Thurston (Debbie). Numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Lance Thomas, Jamey Thomas, Tyler Thomas, Ken Thomas, Nick Halley, and Michael Nolan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tom Garris, Robert Pace, Mike Kellogg, and Fisher Powell.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 08, 2023 at Liberty Baptist Church in Linville, LA.
