Funeral services for Dr. Verna Lucille Barron, age 75 of Nacogdoches, TX, formerly Spearsville, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home with Bro. Kurt Auger officiating. Burial will follow at Spearsville Community Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Dr. Barron was born September 23, 1948 to Guy Tom Waston Barron and Lucille Rockett Barron. She passed away at her home in Nacogdoches, Texas on October 29, 2023.

Education became the focus of her life, first as a gifted student and then as an accomplished teacher. After graduating Valedictorian from Spearsville High School in 1966, she excelled at Louisiana Tech University, graduating with honors in 1970. She earned her graduate and doctorate degrees from Oklahoma State University. In 1977, Dr. Barron joined the Psychology Department's facility at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she taught a wide breadth of courses until her retirement in 2006. In addition to teaching, she maintained a successful private practice for many years.

Dr. Barron was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jerry Lackey; her parents; her brother, Charles Dwain Barron; and her nephew Chris Barron.

She is survived by a brother, Glynn Newton Barron; and nephews, Stacy Barron and Jason Barron.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Farrar Funeral Home.
