Sylvia went to her heavenly home April 12, 2025. She was born in Norphlet, AR on July 15, 1927. She moved to Montiello, LA graduating from high School. There she met the love of her life, JC "Bud" Choat and married her high school sweet heart. Sylvia often told her story that JC had to jump on a stump just to kiss her. She was a migrant farm worker with her husband and together they traveled through Arizonia, Oregon, Washington, and California, picking fruit and vegetables. While living in California, Sylvia became a beautician while JC worked as a contractor and craftsman. The family moved to Lake Providence, LA where they farmed cotton and soy beans. In 1989 they settled in Farmerville, LA where they were charter members of Crestview Baptist Church. Sylvia served as a Sunday School Teacher and led all types of Children Ministries, leading many young people to the Lord. She did needle work, quilting, and crocheted gifts. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she enjoyed being around her family, but most of all she loved her Lord.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years: JC "Bud" Choat; her parents: Hosea Teague and Mary Elizabeth McGarity McAdams; sisters: Sibyl French and Shirley Resor; and her brother: Alvin McAdams.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Joan Frazier and Shawn (Chet) Martin; three sons: Les (Vicki) Choat, Curtis (Lisa) Choat, and Ron (Beth) Choat; nine grandchildren: Patrick (Melissa) Frazier, Jason (Kelly) Choat, Leslie (Darryll) Breaux, Kelli (Marc) Kehoe, Chad (Becky) Martin, Jessica (Jess) Warden, Johnathan (Ashley) Choat, Ashlee (Aaron) Campbell, and Jakob Choat; 16 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; sister: Peggy Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jess Warden, Chad Martin, Jason Choat, Patrick Frazier, Peyton Frazier, Gus Wright, Jackson Choat, and Gabe Kehoe. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Richard Royal and the deacons of Crestview Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of both Arbor Rose and Arbor Lake for the dedicated, loving care they have shown to Sylvia.
