Elkins
Jan 13, 1946 — Jan 23, 2022
Farmerville
Funeral services for Sunshine "Sunny" Martin Elkins, 76, of Farmerville, Louisiana, will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022 , 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Union Baptist Church in Spearsville, Louisiana with Dr. Marlon Black and Pastor Marcell McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Union Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville, Louisiana.
Sunshine was born on January 13, 1946 to Dalton and O.V. Martin in Bienville, Louisiana. She was ushered into her eternal home with Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord, on January 23, 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved Jesus and lived her life serving Him. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit and her ability to bring a smile to the face of anyone who had the pleasure of sitting down for a conversation with her.
She graduated from Bienville High School and attended Ayers Career College. Later on, she met the love of her life, her best friend, and number one fan, Hez Elkins. They were married on September 20, 1964. Their marriage of 57 years is a true testament of love and faithfulness. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Tessa Black and Tonya Elkins.
Sunshine, affectionately known as "Sunny" to her friends and "Nana" to her grandchildren, enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life. She found joy in serving others. Sunshine was very active in WMU and volunteered for disaster relief on the associational and state levels across multiple states. Her loved ones describe her as God-fearing and resilient. She was never afraid of hard work and encouraged others to do the same. She loved to talk about her family and how proud she was of all of them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful conversationalist in that she always took a genuine interest when others were speaking to her, giving them her undivided attention. Her life was a beautiful example of love, courage, devotion, faithfulness, selflessness, and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and O.V. Martin.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Hez Elkins of Farmerville, LA; daughters, Tessa Black (Dr. Marlon Black) of West Monroe, LA and Tonya Elkins of Bryant, AR; grandchildren: Jarod Black of West Monroe, LA, Morgan Ty Hendricks (Brenda) of Conway, AR, Aaron Black (Brooke) of Farmerville, LA, and Tarra Hendricks of Bryant, AR; great-grandchildren: MaKenzie Black, Garrett Black, Cora Hendricks, Eleanor Hendricks, and Easton Black; and a host of family and friends who she cherished deeply.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jarod Black, Morgan Ty Hendricks, Aaron Black, Mickey "Jo-Jo" Martin, Brian Elkins, and Mickey Martin. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Kenny Martin.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville, Louisiana.
The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Sunshine's caregivers, Mynesha Hall, Rena Hausley, and her sister-in-law, Carla Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Harris Baptist Assembly Camp, 2800 Harris Road, Minden, Louisiana, 71055 or Concord Union Association designated to Camp Harris.
