Tuesday morning, October 24, 2023, Patti woke up in heaven completely healed, staring into the sweet face of Jesus.
She was a devoted wife, caring mom, a proud and loving Grammy, and a faithful friend to many. She enjoyed trips to the beach, watching football, baseball and softball, rescuing dogs, and reading. Although she had a degree in social work, she spent most of her life as a stay-at-home mom. For more than 34 years she coached softball in Ouachita and Union Parish. With an undisputable knowledge and fervent love of the game, coaching these girls through the years was one of her greatest accomplishments in life. When her coaching years ended, that void was quickly filled by watching her grandsons, Nic and Jack play baseball. Rarely missing a game, she was without question their biggest fan. Countless hours were spent at the ballfield with friends that were more like family to her. It was most definitely her favorite place to be.
Whether it was Nic and Jack's baseball or Matthew and Eli's soccer, she was extremely proud of their accomplishments on and off the field. She loved hearing Haidyn sing and was so proud of her desire to serve the Lord. Patti loved to laugh and be silly, she loved to sing and she loved to visit over coffee. She also loved chili dogs and hot buttered popcorn which we are sure she is enjoying in Heaven right now. She loved her family and friends but most of all she loved Jesus. She looked forward to the day when she could once again see people she loved in Heaven, especially her grandmother, Bubba, and her very best friend De'Lane.
She loved with all her heart, and she fought with all her might and in the end, the ultimate victory was hers. She will surely be missed.
Mrs. Patti was preceded in death by her parents James Howard and Mary Gretchen Williams; her sister Anna Wiggins; and her dear lifelong friend De'Lane Hollis.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Bill Hughes; four daughters Kim Hughes, Paige Hughes, Susan Long (Chris), and Tricia Ryan (Jeff); five grandchildren Haidyn Simmons (Stephen), Nicolas Long, Jackson Long, Matthew Ryan, and Eli Ryan; her brother Jim Williams (Janet); her brother-in-law David Wiggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Long, Nicolas Long, Jackson Long, Matthew Ryan, Eli Ryan, and Boomer Coates. Honorary pallbearers will be Bubba Kenly, Bobby Grier, Jay Hollis, Bradley McFarland, Jason King, and Adam Riser.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time-of-service Friday, October 27, 2023 at First Assembly of God.
"But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us and when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied for I will see you face to face." Psalms 17:15
