A funeral service for Mr. Malvin Earl Sistrunk, 86, of Farmerville, La., will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022, 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Farmerville, La. with Bro. Kurt Auger officiating. Interment will follow in Downsville City Cemetery in Downsville, La. under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Farmerville, La. prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Malvin Sistrunk was born November 18, 1935 and passed away February 2, 2022. Malvin was a graduate of Holly Ridge High School. After graduation, he attended Louisiana State University and Louisiana College where he played football for both universities. He was drafted to play football for the Green Bay Packers under Vince Lombardi, but decided to further his education, graduating from Louisiana College with a Bachelor's degree. He later graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Master's degree + 30 hours. He taught and coached football at Coushatta High School, and in 1960, came to Farmerville High School where he taught and coached football as well. He was also the head football coach at Bernice High School, and then later traveled to Arcadia High School where he taught and was the head baseball coach, even leading Arcadia to a state championship in baseball. He served as an assistant football coach at Louisiana College, and his position as coach at the college eventually led him to Block High School, where he taught and was the head football coach. In 1973, he returned to Farmerville High School once again where he became the Principal until he moved to the Union Parish School Board in 1980 where he served as Supervisor. In 1998, Mr. Malvin was inducted into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame. Having served 7 years, he then retired from the school board in 1994 as Superintendent. Mr. Malvin loved his family. He adored his daughters and grandchildren, and especially the love of his life, Sharon. Mr. Malvin may have been known as a strict disciplinarian where he carried his paddle up his sleeve, but despite his strict rules and discipline, he loved his students very much and cared for their well-being, on campus and off campus. He was firm, but fair. Malvin was loved by so many, and he will be dearly missed.

Malvin was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Lena Maxwell Sistrunk; sisters, Dorothy Stokes, Shirley Thompson, Bernice Lowery, and Loyce Robinson; and brother, Bud Sistrunk.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 62 years, Sharon Brooks Sistrunk; daughters, Sharra Aswell (Thomas), Suzonne Oleson, and Sheryl Anderson (Steven); grandchildren, Anna Aswell, Andrew Aswell (Erin), Zachary Oleson (Amber), Ally Anderson, and Lily Anderson; along with other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Aswell, Steven Anderson, Andrew Aswell, Zachary Oleson, John Thompson, Greg Thompson, Hudson Green, and Jaylon Gales. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Grafton, Joe Dosher, Steve Richardson, Donny Gates, and the First Baptist Church deacons.
