Funeral services for Luther (Lute) Leon Atwell of Bernice, LA. will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Evergreen Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service.

Lute was born February 15, 1928 to Lonnie Herman Atwell and Minnie Irene Caldwell. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, May 3, 2018.

Lute served in the army during the Korean War and afterward attended Ole Miss University in Oxford, MS., graduating in 1956 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked at PPG Industries for most of his career in various roles and locations, including Lake Charles, LA., Los Angeles, CA, Guayanilla, Puerto Rico and finally Pittsburgh, PA.

Lute enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, carpentry and being his own handyman. When health permitted, he was faithful in attendance at Evergreen Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lorraine Atwell Waters.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Stewart Atwell; two sons, Bruce Atwell (Cindy) and David Atwell, stepchildren, James Hull (Susan) and Maggie Stevens (Brock); several grandchildren, Erik Atwell, Carly Atwell, Rowan Atwell, Nicole Hull, Morgan Hull, Palmer Stevens and Stewart Stevens.
