Funeral services for J C "Bud" Choat, of Farmerville will be held at 2:00pm Friday, May 19, 2017, at Crestview Baptist Church with Bro. Wayne Whiteside officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville.
Mr. Choat, 89, went to his heavenly home May 16, 2017. He was a former resident of Luray, VA before moving to Farmerville in 1989. He was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years and was a dedicated coffee maker in the Sonshine Sunday School Class. Mr. Choat was a farmer in East Carroll Parish for a number of years, a craftsman, artist and a contractor. He assisted in the construction of the Smithsonian Art Museum and Metro Subway in Washington, D.C., as well as ushering in the Jet Age working for Boeing Co. He was a member of the Union Parish Council on Aging where he practiced his artistry. He also enjoyed basket weaving and canning chairs. Bud was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren, but most of all he loved His Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Joshua and Melvina Spangler Choat; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 72 years, Sylvia McAdams Choat of Farmerville; 2 daughters: Joan (Paul) Frazier of Ruston and Shawn (Chet) Martin of Fredricksburg, VA; 3 sons: Les (Vicki) Choat of Sterlington, Curtis (Lisa) Choat of Luray, VA and Ron (Beth) Choat of El Dorado, AR; 9 grandchildren: Patrick (Melissa) Frazier, Jason Choat, Leslie (Donnie) Scheid, Kelli (Marc) Kehoe, Chad (Becky) Martin, Johnathan Choat, Ashlee Choat, Jakob Choat, and Jessica (Jess) Warden; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Royal and deacons of Crestview Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Arbor Rose for the dedicated, loving care they have shown to Bud and his wife, Sylvia.
Visitation is 6-8pm Thursday at Crestview Baptist Church in Farmerville.
