Edna Dorris Strickland, 97, of the Weldon Community near Bernice, La. passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Bernice Nursing Home and Rehab Center. She was born on October 2, 1919 to Josephus (Zeaf) & Minnie Thurmon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, D.C. Strickland; her parents; one sister, Marcelle McGuire & husband, Ervin; one brother, Max Edward Thurmon & wife, Media Jane (Sister); two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Lee Strickland and Bobby Grafton; sister-in-law, Beatrice Strickland Marly; and niece, Reba Grafton.

She is survived by one sister, Patsy Grafton of Minden, La.; one sister-in-law, Bobbie Dayle Strickland Smith & husband, Bill of Bernice, La.; several nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and friends.

Mrs. Strickland loved her Lord and enjoyed worshiping with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She became a member of Weldon Baptist Church in Bernice, La. at the age of four and was also a member of the W.M.U. Her yard was a testimony of her love for flowers and gardening. She had a life filled with lots of adventures, being the wife of a Naval Officer, who traveled many places in the United States as well as Japan during World War II. She was a beautician who worked in Shreveport, La., Ruston, La. and then out of her home.

Visitation will be held at Weldon Baptist Church from 2:00pm until 3:00pm, Sunday, February 19, 2017 with funeral services following at 3:00pm. Burial will be in the Weldon Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Henry Arant, Freddie Boyett, Huies Gilbert, Phillip Grafton, Donny Lee, Eddy Lee, Jimmy Hammons, and Ricky Rea.

Bro. Scott Arant, Bro. Harvey Hoffman and Bro. Phillip Farris will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Strickland asked that donations be given to Boys' Town, Gideons, St. Jude Hospital or Weldon Baptist Church.
