Funeral services for Mrs. Edna "Jean" Medlin McCartney Chrisman will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home with Bro Brent Majesko officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery in Marion, LA, under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Edna "Jean" Medlin McCartney Chrisman, affectionately known as "Flash," aged 92, of Marion, was welcomed into God's kingdom on October 26, 2023. Born on December 12, 1930, to Dr. Milas and Maud Medlin, Jean's life was a testament to love and devotion.

Jean is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas Chrisman. She was reunited with her husband of 55 years, Charles McCartney; her sons Kevin and Jimmy McCartney, grandson Justin McCartney; brothers Jack, Milas, Elton, Alva, and Toby Medlin; and her sisters, Sarah Medlin Ward and Iva Medlin Pardue.

Her legacy continues through her sons Danny (Meg) McCartney and Jerry (Veronica) McCartney. Her grandchildren, Erin Gravois, Dawn Hinton, Jason, Miki, Huey, and Ty McCartney, will fondly remember their grandmother. Jean also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jean's charismatic personality allowed her to make friends effortlessly. Her latest endeavor involved embroidering and distributing tea towels to strangers she met at local establishments like Walmart and "the dollar store," telling them that "no one could ever say your name like the Savior." Jean's life was filled with inspiring experiences, such as helping to place babies in loving homes while volunteering for the American Red Cross. Jean enjoyed cooking, making quilts, solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and playing Wordscapes in her leisure time. She also loved to write talks, poems, and family history papers for her family. Her favorite poems were about mothers.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sister Gail Chevalier for her unwavering friendship and support for Flash, especially since the death of our father in 2004. We also appreciate the compassionate care provided by Glenwood Hospital earlier in the year and the hospice team during her last days. The boys and family are incredibly thankful for the blessing that "Mr. Chris" has been to our mother.  He is a loving husband who served our mother with devotion and love until the very end.

Jean was a woman of unwavering faith in God with a great love for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held a special place in her heart for all the missionaries she met, especially Brother Ron Snarr, whom she met in Lafayette, LA.

Jean was an extraordinary woman whose influence will be forever cherished by our family. Her unwavering faith in God and her family were her top priorities. Jean's memory will continue to inspire us all.

Serving as pallbearers will be Miki McCartney, Jason McCartney, Huey McCartney, Ty McCartney, Avery Gravois, Kevin Gravois, and Noel Hinton.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home.
