Donald
Reeves
Sep 26, 1945 — Sep 25, 2024
Marion
Donald Reeves, 78, of Marion, La, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on September 25, 2024. He was born on September 26, 1945, in Farmerville, to the late Claudis and Lizzie Reeves. Funeral services will be held September 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Dean Baptist Church with Bro. Stuart Toms and Bro. Jed Rhodes officiating.
Donald graduated from Marion High School in 1963, where he was very athletic in baseball and basketball. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was known for buying, selling and trading many walker dogs. He loved hunting day or night. Hunters far and near would seek him out for advice and the occasional purchase of a walker dog. He loved to tell hunting experiences in his sermons. Donald had various jobs including working at the IMC Plant in Sterlington until his true calling of a full time Pastoral Ministry.
Don started his walk with Jesus at Haile Baptist Church and was saved in 1976, where he served in many capacities including deacon and the youth director. He also served as the youth director for the Union Baptist Association. In 1983 Bro. Don surrendered to preach and became the pastor of Spencer Baptist Church (1985-1989), Rocky Branch Baptist Church (1990-1994), and Dean Baptist Church (1995-2023). He served at Dean Baptist Church for 28 years and retired due to illness. He was more than a Preacher to the community; he was a Pastor to all he encountered. He was known by many names, but "Preacher" was the name he cherished. He loved Jesus, he loved to talk about Jesus, and he loved to tell the story of Jesus to all.
Remaining to cherish Don's memory are his wife of 56 wonderful years, Melba Reeves; sons, Donnie Reeves (and Moira) and Dennis Reeves (and Brandy); grandchildren, Juli, Greg (and Maggie), Steven, Savannah (and Hunter), Wiley, Emmarie, Carter, and Dustin (and Haili); great grandchildren, Savanna, Skylar, Paisley, Lucas, Owen, Nathan, Isabella, Aubrie, Addison, and Kaden; brothers, Charlie Reeves and Mildred, Gene Reeves and Janice; and his sister, Rena Haynsworth and Bobby.
Serving as pallbearers are Greg Medlin, Bobby Haynsworth, Jody Cook, Mikey Kennedy, Stacey Caldwell, and James Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Dean Baptist Church along with Michael Howard, Elton Pardue and Arthur Binford.
Visitation will be at Dean Baptist Church between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Friday, September 27, 2024 and at 1:00 PM before the service, Saturday, September 28, 2024. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery in Linville, La, under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.
TELL the story of Jesus!
