Funeral services for Dewey Lane Rhodes, age 84 of Dean, LA, will be held at 10:00 Am, Friday, May 2, 2025 at Dean Baptist Church with Bro. Aleck Nyegaard and Bro. Bubba Hoggatt officiating. Interment will follow at Dean Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Looking down from heaven as an 84-year-old man whose body was worn out and whose heart had been broken over the last couple of years. In a place the man never wanted to be, and not being able to do the things he loved in life, God decided that man's race was ran. So, he brought him from that earthly home and earthly body to his eternal home and a new body, reunited with loved ones and old friends.

Dewey Lane Rhodes, Sr. was born on April 12, 1941 in Spearsville, LA, along with his twin brother, and passed away on April 29, 2025 in Farmerville, LA. Dewey and his family lived in Spearsville for several years, but moved to Dean where his father ran the Alabama Landing. This is where Dewey got his work ethic, taking care of boats and helping fisherman. This is also where he got his love for the woods and the Ouachita River. With a hard-working father and a loving mother, Dewey grew up in a caring family life. With an older brother, a twin, and two younger sisters, there was also lots of time to enjoy life and also lots of time for boys to be boys.

Dewey attended Marion High School where he graduated in 1959. He was an outstanding baseball player and always the class clown. He always had something to say and always said it. He married his high school sweetheart Juanita Patrick in March of 1961. Dewey worked in the oilfield early on, then went on to a career in the pipeline industry. He worked all over the United States, in Alaska, and in South America. He was a foreman who was known for taking care of his employees. Dewey worked for several different contractors and later some consulting work. Summer vacations for the kids were going to wherever daddy was working. When Dewey wasn't working, he was commercial fishing, trapping, hunting, or fishing. He loved being in the woods and on the water.

Dewey was a longtime member of Dean Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 30 years. He helped out in many other capacities, known for his overseeing of a yearly Men's supper. He was also a member of Union Fraternal Masonic Lodge 53.

If you knew Dewey, you never really knew what might come out of his mouth, but he was a talker, he was also a writer, having written many poems, songs, stories, and even had a column "From the East Side" in The Bernice Banner for several years. He loved to sing anything, anywhere he could.

Dewey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His blue eyes, smile, and his voice will be remembered. He will be missed by those he left behind, but they are ensured that they will meet again in Heaven one day.

Dewey was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years: Juanita Rhodes; sons: Richard Rhodes "Monkey" and Ronald Rhodes "Frog"; grandkids: Summer Lum, Richard Rhodes, Jr. "Spanky", and Hope Rhodes; his parents: Earnie and Oval Rhodes; sisters: Gail Durbin and Peggy Rhodes; and his daughter in law: Dixie Rhodes.

He is survived by his daughter: Terri Martinez (Lupe); son: Jed Rhodes (Joann); daughters in law: Vera Rhodes and Peggy Rhodes; grandkids: Dustin Rhodes (Kelsey), Kaitlyn Cobb (Justin), Tyree Rhodes (Shannon), Logan Steed (Ira), and Lupe Martinez, Jr.; great grandchildren: Hudson, Alivia, JD, Morgan, and Allie; brothers: Houston Rhodes and Huey Rhodes (Pete); sisters in law: Rosa Turner and Beverly Patrick.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Dean Baptist Church.
