Funeral services for Carl "Buck" Futch, 78, of Marion will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 8, 2019 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Bro. Kurt Auger officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Mr. Futch passed away on July 4, 2019. Buck, better known as the mayor of "the Hooker Hole" in Haile, Louisiana, could usually be found on the banks of the Ouachita River piddling and tinkering. He loved spending his time on the river. He considered all the "River Rats" to be his extended family. He really enjoyed the nightly Liver Pool Rummy card games – which he would usually win. In the fall you could hear his cheers for his beloved New Orleans Saints echo amongst the banks of the river.

Buck could fix anything and spent many evenings working on new "creations" of his own. He designed and built one of the first PRO driven hydraulic wood splitters in this area. He even created a hammock with a pressure-sensor linked to an automatic-ceiling fan, which would surely have enjoyed national acclaim if only he had ever been willing to take it down long enough to show anyone "in town" what the world was missing.

Buck loved waterskiing, and patiently taught his kids and many of their friends how to ski. He also prepared his kids for life by teaching them a strong work ethic-having them learn how to change tires before they could even drive, signing them up to mow the Mt. Tabor cemetery, and making them split wood under the scorching summer sun (just in case a cold snap hit in the middle of August).

After battling and beating cancer, he resided at the Arbor Lake Nursing Home. He enjoyed rambling the halls, visiting with others and flirting with the nurses. In the early days at Arbor Lake, he enjoyed the nurses many visits on their breaks to work on his puzzles. Of course, Buck would always hide a piece so that he was always the one to finish it. More than anything, though, he enjoyed their company and the many hugs that followed. The family cannot express enough their gratitude to the many nurses and staff that cared for him. He loved you all very much.

Mr. Futch was preceded in death by his parents, Jess & Alma Shaw Futch; brother, Don Futch; and sister, Dorothy Kirby.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Carla Wilkes (James) and Marcia Owen all of Farmerville; one son, J.J. Futch (Meredith) of West Monroe; seven grandchildren, Zach Wilkes (Anne), Josh Wilkes, Justin Owen (Ashley), Duncan Owen, Annie Griffin (Matt), Thomas Futch and Will Richardson; and a host of other family and friends.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel.
