Bobby Wayne Gilbert, aged 74, was an affectionate and dedicated man who always put the needs of others above his own. A graduate of Oceana High School in Pacifica, California, and a lover of puzzles and problem-solving, he began his career as an Auto Technician and Mechanic, specializing in transmissions and EPA emissions and inspections. A hard worker, he built his auto repair business in Bernice, Louisiana, where he and his wife of 55 years made their home. His family and friends know him for his compassionate nature and witty sense of humor.  Bob enjoyed playing golf, solving sudoku puzzles, fishing, and hunting, especially duck hunting. He loved his country and was a true patriot. Above all, he loved the Lord, his family, and making people laugh. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a good, honest man all the way around, left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and we remember him as a beacon of unwavering Faith with a uniquely kind soul.

Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Brian Gilbert; parents Bob C. and Lillian Story Gilbert; and brother, Monty Gilbert.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Payne Gilbert; daughter Deanna Duvall (Ray); sisters Penny Crews, Lesia Gilbert, and Debbie Bennett (Jeff); brothers Darrell Gilbert (Jenny), Larry Gilbert (Kathy), and Randy Gilbert (Fran); grandchildren Brienna Dugdale (Dusty), Robert Gilbert, B.J. Gilbert, Triston Duvall, Lucas Gilbert, Aaron Duvall, and Forrest Toney; and an Aunt, Helen Story.

A memorial service for the family will be held at a later time. For those moved to honor Bob's legacy, donations to your charity of choice will sustain the compassion with which he lived.
