Funeral services for Billy O'Bannon of Bernice, LA, will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Bernice. Billy was born June 21, 1927, in Bernice, LA and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty O'Bannon, his parents Sam Willis O'Bannon and Eula Carmichael O'Bannon, and brothers Sam O'Bannon and Jack O'Bannon.
Billy was a 1944 graduate of Bernice High School. After graduation, Billy enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Louisiana Tech University. Billy married Betty Ruth Fisher O'Bannon on October 20, 1956. Together they served as faithful members of First Baptist Church of Bernice for over 60 years where Billy was ordained as a church deacon in 1953. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and on various committees. Billy worked as a Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 42 years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Bernice Volunteer Fire Department, was an organizing member of Bernice Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCO), a member of Bernice Historical Society, as well as an organizing board member of the D'arbonne Water System.
Survivors include daughter Sharon and husband Gary Parker of Shreveport, LA, son Phil O'Bannon and wife Alice of Lewisville, TX, grandchildren Jordan Parker and wife Rikki of Decatur, IL, Lauren and husband Sean Fields of Midlothian, TX, Adam Parker and wife Emily of Midlothian, TX, great-grandchildren Ross Fields, Morris Parker, and Barrett Fields.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church Bernice, LA.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to family and friends of FBC Bernice, friends and staff at The Glen Retirement System, Dr. Paul C. Davis, Elizabeth Willis, and to Life Path Hospice, all of Shreveport, LA, for their loving care. Pallbearers are Jordan Parker, Adam Parker, Sean Fields, Gary Willliams, Kim Kelley, Kasey Kelley, and Terry Joe Oliver.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Men's Sunday School Class of FBC Bernice and Charlie Burlison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Bernice or the charity of the donor's choice.
