Funeral services for Ms. Betty Jackson Roan, age 81 of Bernice, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Spearsville, LA. Bro. Greg Clark and Bro. Alen Miller will be officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Creek Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Betty graduated from Bernice High School in 1960 where she was a Majorette and a high scoring offensive player on the girls' basketball team. She graduated Nursing school from Louisiana Tech in 1986 and began working at Union General Hospital. She was a huge inspiration to anyone who wanted to pursue a career later in life seeing as she was forty-four years old when she finished nursing school. She was an encouraging influence to all the nurses who came to work at Union General Hospital, and it was stated many times, "Betty taught me everything I know about nursing."  She later became a KidMed nurse for Dr. Uncle.

Betty was a nurturer down to her very core and had a green thumb that rivaled all others. She had such a unique gift that she won a contest for growing the most beautiful rose and had the honor of naming it as her very own for a florist magazine.  She loved spending time taking care of her plants and among her favorites were roses and ferns. She shared this love of nature with everyone and shared her love of roses and ferns with her children, yet somehow, none of them managed to inherit her green thumb.

She was a great friend to many and loved spending time playing Wahoo with many of her great friends (Barbara, Wanda, Carolyn, and Evelyn) were some of her fondest memories. During Betty's time in the nursing home one of her dearest friends, Bonnie Miller, sat with her every weekend and played many games of Wahoo and continued to make very special memories. Her lifelong friend of seventy-six years, Jo Tatum, never wavered in her devotion and friendship to the very end.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother and considered this to be her greatest triumph. She was beloved by so many, and her influence will be carried on through everyone who had the privilege to get to know her. Her love of Wahoo, time with friends, laughs with family, hugs with her children, and every moment spent with her grandchildren have made an impact that will be carried down from generation to generation. She will be loved, adored, and remembered for the wonderful light that she carried in her spirit for many years to come.

Ms. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Henderson; her parents, David B. and Marie Driggers Jackson; sister, Frances Garris; and brother, David Jackson.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim Stanley, Keri Price (Eddie), April Gregory (Dale), and Crystal Bearden (Stacy); her son David Henderson (Deanna); grandchildren, Jennie Dawsey (Cory), Morgan Hibbard (Trent), Brody Stanley, Halie Lively (T.J.), Prestin Smith (Riley), Paisley Ludwig, Macy Hughes (Micah), Marissa Lechner (Luke), Kelsey Weir (Logan), Karlie Gregory, Skye Gregory, and Kaleb Gregory; many great grandchildren; and three brothers, Jimmy Jackson, Charles Jackson, and Joe Jackson (Peggy).

Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Roark, Greg Green, Ian Bridges, Logan Bridges, Brody Stanley, and Kane Barton.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 12, 2024 at Farrar Funeral Home.
