John “Buster” Edward Maxey

John Edward “Buster” Maxey, 86, of Linville passed away peacefully on Aug 22, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.

Buster was born Aug. 5, 1940, in Calhoun, LA to James and Ezelle Maxey. He was the fourth of five children and grew up in Sterlington, LA. He married his high school sweetheart Ann Love Maxey, on October 3, 1963. They had one son, Audie Maxey.

He was an avid fisherman and duck hunter in his younger years, and spent many hours doing so with his friends James “Peanut” Wells and Kenny Pace. In his later years, Buster was a huge gardener who readily shared the “fruits” of his labor with neighbors and friends. His garden was his pride and joy and he loved comparing his onions and tomatoes to those of other growers. He also spent many hours birdwatching and building bird boxes and feeders for his little friends. He shared those with friends and neighbors as well.

Buster retired from Angus Chemical in 2001 after a lifetime of service. Retiring came just in time to help babysit the other love of his life, granddaughter Aubrey Maxey, whom he and Ann spent every day enjoying as she grew up. Once she began playing sports in school, they never missed a game, chasing her all over Louisiana and East Mississippi playing basketball and softball. He also enjoyed his Thursday men’s lunch that he often shared with close friends Rubin Weaver, David Byrnes, Jay Albritton, Rick Carter, and Billy Scarborough, as well as others who would sometimes join them.

He was enthusiastically sought after by children in the community as well as church. They always knew his name and always knew he had a piece of candy or bubblegum in his pocket and enough to go around.

After giving his life to Christ, Buster found great joy in serving in his church and was confident in where he would spend eternity. He joins his family in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ray Maxey, Jimmy Maxey, and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Love Maxey, son Audie Maxey and wife Chantele, granddaughter Aubrey Maxey, and his constant canine companion, Jinks. He is also survived by his sister Kay Downs and husband Dale, sisters in law Helen Parker and husband Lanny, Judy Bryan and husband Dan, and by numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately knew him as Uncle Boo Boo.

Services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA at 10:00 Tuesday with burial at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Farrar’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 pm at Antioch Baptist Church.

Honoring Buster as pallbearers are Lanny Parker, Josh Parker, Bill Thurston, Caskey Terrel, Jay Albritton, David Maxey. Honorary pallbearers are James “Peanut” Wells, Jim McNair, Charlie Barr, Pop Seffins, Kenny Burgess, and Pete Kleinpeter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Billy Branch and staff for his wonderful care in Buster’s last days.
